War 2, one of India’s most anticipated films of the year, is generating massive hype thanks to its powerhouse casting of Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan and South Indian icon NTR. This high-voltage collaboration has elevated expectations to new heights, with many predicting it could be the biggest grosser of 2025—and potentially a new entrant into the coveted ₹1000 crore club. Historically, the War franchise and YRF’s spy universe have largely resonated with North Indian audiences, with limited traction in the South. However, the inclusion of NTR has completely changed the equation. The anticipation is especially strong in the Telugu states, where the star enjoys an unparalleled fanbase. Scheduled to release on August 14, War 2 will clash with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, setting the stage for a high-stakes box office showdown. As release nears, distribution negotiations in the Telugu states are in full swing. Early reports suggest that the producers are aiming for around ₹110 crore from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana rights, while distributors are quoting closer to ₹85 crore. Specifically, the Andhra region’s six territories are being discussed at around ₹35 crore. To put it in context, NTR’s upcoming solo film Devara was sold for ₹120 crore (including GST) and has reportedly done business above ₹150 crore. However, War 2 is a different beast altogether—it’s a slick spy thriller, not a mass-action entertainer like Devara, and may not cater equally to all audience segments. Still, even a closing deal in the ₹90–100 crore range would mark a massive business achievement, largely thanks to the NTR factor. With discussions ongoing and buzz building, all eyes are on where the final deal will settle—and whether War 2 can live up to its monumental expectations.
